BT! dumps! Yahoo! after! 10! long! years! together!

Sorry Marissa, but news and email? We can go elsewhere for that…

BT is ditching Yahoo! after 10 years to take up with US firm Critical Path, which will supply email services on the new BT.com.

The telco said it was switching its broadband customers over to the new BT Mail service as part of the relaunch of BT.com, breaking up with Yahoo! and axing the BT Yahoo! portal at the same time.

BT had already announced that it would be revamping its site, putting “breaking news and simple access to email” together with user account and billing info from next month. The Press Association will be taking over the news service, cutting Yahoo! off from millions of Brits.

Yahoo! webmail! hijacks! are! back!…

Didn’t! they! fix! that?!

Yahoo! has blamed cross-site scripting security bugs, which it claims to have squashed, for a recent upsurge in webmail account takeovers.

Over the last few days several Reg readers have been in touch to complain that their Yahoo! webmail accounts have been hijacked or to point us towards complaints on various support forums about the issue.

Yahoo shuts down 7 products, including its BlackBerry app and Yahoo Message Boards

Yahoo has announced that seven of its products will be discontinued as it looks to focus on core products and experiences.

Along with its BlackBerry smartphone app and the Yahoo Message Boards, the firm will be closing Yahoo Clues, Yahoo Avatars, Yahoo App Search, Yahoo Sports IQ, and Yahoo Updates API.

“Before making these decisions, we look at a variety of factors. The most critical question we ask is whether the experience is truly a daily habit that still resonates for all of you today,” read Yahoo’s blog.
